findme-here: Please don’t fear or lose hope in the new year. It’s called ‘new’ year for a reason; let the old times go, and as the clock strikes 12, may you find in you the grace to say, “oh boy, what a year!” and walk into the new year with a smile.

Cystoscopy Blues
Having a cystoscppy under general anesthesia in 2 weeks. Its not that bad but they keep calling it a surgery. WHY YOU GUYS??!!!!1 For the last 3 years, whenever I’ve had something stressful or uncertainty pop up, I begin to have dreams about being lost in a hospital, running from the doctors, and/or awake on the operating table while maniacal doctors are ripping me open. I was doing so good...

Oh Rain
tylerknott: Oh rain will you fall on my shoulders and soak into my tired skin?  Will you soothe me now?  Will you wash away the dirt and soil and ash and mud and baptize me in your grace?  Will you hold me and fill me with the scent of calm and the perfect smell of hope, will you fall? Will you, oh rain? -Tyler Knott Gregson-

Does the calendar really have to be so confusing? →
sciencecenter: The dates fall on different days of the week every year. The months all have different numbers of days, with no rhyme or reason. There’s plenty of inefficiency built into the modern calendar. But according to Johns Hopkins astronomer Richard Conn Henry, that doesn’t have to be the case. According to his proposed calendar, eight of the months would have 30 days, with 31 days every...

Ladies & Gentlemen, I give you, the 2012...
Michelle Bachmann: "Don’t misunderstand. I am not here bashing people who are homosexuals, who are lesbians, who are bisexual, who are transgender. We need to have profound compassion for people who are dealing with the very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life and sexual identity disorders.” (2004)
Ron Paul: "The rate of AIDS infection is on the increase again. From the gay point of view, the reasons seem quite sensible. First, these men don't really see a reason to live past their fifties. They are not married, they have no children, and their lives are centered on new sexual partners... because sex is the center of their lives, they want it to be as pleasurable as possible, which means unprotected sex. Third, they enjoy the attention & pity that comes with being sick." (1995 in a newsletter)
Rick Perry: "I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school. " (2011 in a campaign ad)
Mitt Romney: "I should tell my story. I'm also unemployed." (2011 while speaking to unemployed people in Florida. Romney's net worth is over $200 million.)
Newt Gingrich: "She's not young enough or pretty enough to be the wife of the President. And besides, she has cancer." (1994, about his first wife)
Rick Santorum: "Is anyone saying same-sex couples can’t love each other? I love my children. I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too?" (2008)
Michelle Bachmann: "Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn't even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas." (2009 during a debate)
Mitt Romney: "PETA is not happy that my dog likes fresh air." (2006, when questioned about driving 12 hours with his dog in a cage strapped to the top of his car)

Louis CK's Shameful Dirty Comedy
viafrank: I’ve been thinking about Louis CK lately. I’m a fan of his show on FX, and I’m so happy his recent adventure in distributing his newest comedy special himself has been a rousing success. But my thoughts are going elsewhere to wonder why he has blown up in popularity in the past couple years, and why his comedy seems to resonate with these times. It always feels like there’s a...

You know what’s disappointing? When you have to cancel a weekend out with friends because you come down with a cold that zaps all your energy, and they ignore your extravagantly apologetic texts and never even bother to ask how you’re doing. God I just LOVE people.

I have come to the conclusion that I do not know how to handle stress properly. This is why I got shingles a year ago, it’s why I can’t sleep, have aches and pains, get sick so easily. The realization of this has been catalyzed by having been faced with more-severe-than-normal-for-a-20-year-old-pampered-American-girl issues that I’ve found myself incapable of dealing with in a...
